This post is a little belated as I visited Amsterdam in late March, but I kept looking back at my phone pictures and dreaming of another trip. Amsterdam is up there with my favourite cities I’ve ever been to. One of those places you wander around thinking constantly “when can I move here”. I loved the gorgeous canal houses, with their striking gables and funny hooks to hoist furniture up. The lovely cobbled streets, rammed with bicycles, and endless bridges across the water. I would really like to see more of the Netherlands now.
We stayed at the Hoxton which was situated within the “De 9 Straatjes” aka The Nine Streets, which are full of little cafes and cool shops. The hotel was beautiful and the perfect location away from the typical garish touristy zone (there was no stag do in sight). I wouldn’t recommend the restaurant at the hotel, but in the evenings it was nice to wander down and sit in the armchairs and sofas that face out on to the sparkling water.
